Osteopathy is a form of primary healthcare using the hands for diagnosis and treatment: osteopathy is a protected title and regulated by law in the UK.
At Canterbury Osteopathic Clinic we aim to give the best possible treatment, which is why our appointments are scheduled to take a little longer than most: at your first appointment we take a full case history to get to know you and find out what kind of treatment is suitable; 40 minutes is allocated for subsequent appointments to reassess your situation and monitor any changes. You will have time to relax during the treatment, which helps with your self-healing process. Although practitioners at Canterbury Osteopathic Clinic are fully trained in ‘conventional’ osteopathic manipulation, we believe that very often, osteopathic techniques in the cranial field are an appropriate form of treatment. We don’t just treat your head: osteopathic techniques in the cranial field can be applied to any part of the body. We have both trained extensively in the biodynamic approach to osteopathy in the cranial field, according to the syllabus of James Jealous DO, which is based on the original cranial concept by William Sutherland DO. Every patient is treated as an individual, and the type of treatment will be chosen according to the presenting complaint, medical history and findings on examination.
New clients are asked to arrive a few minutes before the appointed time to fill in a simple registration form (if not sent by post beforehand). An extensive case history will be taken on the first visit to determine a diagnosis, prognosis and the most appropriate treatment method. Please bring details of any current medication and/or supplements taken. X-ray and imaging slides or reports may be useful if available.
For osteopathy treatment clients may be asked to undress to underwear for examination, but treatment is often carried out through clothes, please wear light comfortable clothing. Babies may be undressed for examination, but treatment is usually given through clothing.
We offer a professional service and hope your experience will be a good one, but if you are not satisfied in any way please direct your issues to the practice manager via reception in the first instance, or one of the osteopaths at the clinic, either verbally or in writing. A fee is charged for missed appointments or cancellations with less than 24 hours notice that we are unable to fill.
Southeastern Trains: The nearest stations are Canterbury West (about 12 minutes walk, trains from St. Pancras International or Charing Cross) Canterbury East (15 minutes walk, trains from London Victoria)
Buses arrive at Canterbury Bus Station (PDF file) from all over Kent, and coaches from London Victoria Coach Station. Canterbury Bus Station is about12 minutes walk
For a quick visit there are some parking bays opposite the reception entrance (1-hour free parking). A pay and display car park is about 150 metres away in Northgate near the Medical Practice. If you are shopping in Sainsbury’s you can park free for two hours and walk through from the car park.
Cash and cheques with a valid bank card are accepted by the practitioners.

You can pay the receptionist after each consultation unless payment is pre-arranged through your health insurance company. Payment by credit card will incur an additional 2.5% fee. We are not currently registered with AXA PPP, but accept payments from most other major insurance companies.
